December 2017 Income

December

Hi everyone welcome to my first post of 2018. Wow that seems weird typing 2018 where did 2017 go? Also a fun note this is my 100th blog post 🙂 I can’t believe I have made it this far. I hope you guys are enjoying my posts. Today I will share with you my December dividend income, I finished the year strong and I hope you did as well.

My portfolio consists of two accounts the Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) and the Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP). In December I had 17 stocks and 1 ETF pay me. I received a total of $404.51 in the month $106.03 in my TFSA account and $298.48 in my RRSP account. December was the 5th month in which I received $400 or more hopefully I can grow this number in 2018.

TFSA

Inter Pipeline $18.52
Chorus Aviation $17.28
The Keg Royalties Income Fund $15.70
Artis Real Estate Investment Trust $13.95
Boston Pizza Royalties Fund $12.31
Plaza REIT $11.25
Corus Entertainment $6.56
Canadian National Railway $6.19
Canadian Apartment Properties REIT $4.27

I received $106.03 this month in my TFSA account compared to $94.48 in 2016. My new investments in Canadian National Railway, Plaza REIT and Canadian Apartment Properties REIT are a big reason for this increase. My increased investment in Chorus Aviation from earlier in the year helped boost my income. One stock that is missing is Boardwalk REIT which I sold last month, In 2016 I had received $17.63 from Boardwalk.

RRSP

Enbridge $88.45
Fortis $68.43
Canadian Utilities $55.41
BMO US Dividend ETF $29.50
Power Corp $21.15
Pizza Pizza Royalty Corp $16.76
Exco Technologies $8.00
Westjet $7.00
Alimentation Couche-Tard $3.78

This month I received $298.48 in this account compared to $193.10 last year a huge increase. A big reason for this increase is from Enbridge in 2016 I received $49.82, due to my two investments in the company in 2017 I received $88.45 an increase of $38.63 per quarter. I can also attribute this increase to my further investments throughout 2017 in Canadian Utilities, Power Corp and Alimentation Couche-Tard.

2016 vs 2017 Dividends

As you can see I had a huge increase in December versus last December this was due to my investments I made throughout the year in some of my blue chip stocks.

2017 Dividend Goal

I did it, I did it I accomplished my goal of receiving $4k in dividends in 2017. My final tally was $4,312.17

Dividend Increases

  • On December 5th Bank of Montreal increased their dividend to $0.93 from $0.90
  • On December 19th The Keg Royalties Income Fund announced a special distribution of $0.03 per unit.

Buys/Sells

I did not sell any shares in December.

  • On December 1st I purchased 43 shares of Canadian Apartment Properties REIT.

Well folks that wraps up my month of December. I was able to achieve my goal of dividends received for 2017 which makes me very happy. How was your month? Did you achieve any goals? Please let me know how you did, I always enjoy hearing from you.

I would like to wish each of you a Happy New Year.

Thanks for you support.

  2. $4k in dividend for the year is not too shabby. I think you can definitely top $5k in 2018. A great thing about great companies is that they will give you a raise every year. I am starting to really enjoy getting dividends every month.

My ultimate goal is to live off the dividend income from my portfolio. I am about 1/2 way there. Just need a few more years then I have my money working for me instead of me working for money.
