April 2021 Dividend Income

Hello everyone and welcome back. Today I will share my April dividend income with you. As we are in the early part of May I’ve noticed with my portfolio that the January, April, July and October months are going to be strong performers for my TFSA account, and the March, June, September and December months will be my strong performers for my RRSP account. Thanks to a payment from Power Corp my TFSA account received it’s highest ever amount of dividends.

I received $665.84 in dividends this month. I received payments from 12 stocks and 1 ETF, ten of these being in my TFSA account. Here is the income per account:

  • TFSA $432.14
  • RRSP $233.70

I had three US stocks pay this month, so here is the currency in which I received the dividends in. To keep things simple I report the US currency as Canadian, that way I don’t have to convert it.

  • USD $233.70
  • CDN $432.14

Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)

North West Company Inc$0.33
Telus$61.75
TC Energy$119.88

Income declined here due to moving BCE, TC Energy and Telus over to my TFSA account. Other than the income declining this was a slow month for the account with only three stocks paying me.

Yearly Dividends

As you can see my income declined compared to last April, it was down 11.8% or $89.32. I’m hoping to return to growth next April if all goes according to plan.

2021 Dividend Goal

Through the first four months of the year I’ve received 33.7% of my goal.

Stock Purchases

Before I list my purchases for the month, I wanted to share with you that I bought a new stock for my portfolio and that is Greenlane Renewables (ticker: GRN). The company is cleaning up the natural gas grid and transportation sector. As a leading global provider of biogas upgrading systems, Greenlane’s solutions create clean, low-carbon renewable natural gas (RNG), suitable for injection into the natural gas grid and for direct use as vehicle fuel.

Greenlane doesn’t pay a dividend, which makes it a strange purchase for me. If you’ve followed my investing journey then you know I usually only buy dividend paying stocks. I started buying Greenlane Renewables because I wanted to add another stock in the renewables space. I don’t plan on having a big position in my portfolio, at the moment I plan on having it be about 1 to 2% of my TFSA account.

Now let’s share what I purchased in April.

  • Greenlane Renewables 131 shares
  • XAW ETF 12 shares
  • Telus 5 shares
  • Enbridge 5 shares
  • Brookfield Renewable Partners Corporation 5 shares
  • BCE 3 shares
  • Alimentation Couche-Tard 3 shares

Dividend Increases

Received two raises this month.

  • Johnson & Johnson 5%
  • Apple 7%

Thanks for reading! Hope you all had a great month!

  1. Congratulations Matthew for you $665.84 in dividend for April ! 🎉 I realised, you sold NFI like me. After buying it in 2017, I was expecting growth and it’s totally the opposite that occured and on the top, they cut half of the dividend, no way, I sold it in January ! I was not satisfied as a shareholder at all ! Keep up the good work !

  2. Congratulations on another great month. Very well done my friend. Those are some fantastic numbers. I pretty much like how you are staying on top of your goal “Through the first four months of the year I’ve received 33.7% of my goal.”.
