March 2021 Dividend Income

Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by to read my March dividend income post. I’ve been a little absent from the blog lately, this was due to wanting to take a little break and also working a different shift at work. I’m currently working days due to my school and now every school in the province of Ontario being closed due to COVID. My school was closed a week earlier then the other schools due to a COVID outbreak which started with a couple of people and now stands in the mid 30s. So far I haven’t had any symptoms and feel good.

Ok so let’s talk dividends now, March to me was a good month, I have my portfolio where I want it and the numbers came out lower than previous years due to all the changes I made in January. My income was $576.34 for the month down -28.7% from last March. I had 15 stocks and an ETF pay dividends and here is the income per account:

  • RRSP $305.35
  • TFSA $169.12
  • LIRA $101.87

Ten US stocks paid this month, so here is the currency in which I received the dividends in. To keep things simple I report the US currency as Canadian, that way I don’t have to convert it.

  • USD $305.35
  • CDN $270.99

Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)

20202021
Lockheed Martin$19.20$78.00
Pinnacle West Capital$41.50
Johnson & Johnson$15.20$40.40
Home Depot$18.00$37.95
3M Company$14.70$29.60
Walgreen’s Boots Alliance$9.15$21.04
Pfizer$19.50
Bank of America$12.96$18.00
Microsoft$10.71$14.56
Visa$4.80
Enbridge$127.17
Fortis$99.80
Power Corp$95.58
Realty Income Corp$10.93
Total$433.40$305.35

With three big names leaving the account took a big hit. My account now only holds US paying stocks (except Algonquin Power & Utilities which is Canadian but pays in USD). My plan is too over time add to all of these positions.

Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA)

20202021
Enbridge$50.94
iShares S&P/TSX Capped Reit Index ETF$33.73
Fortis$28.28
Brookfield Renewable Partners Corporation$15.30$26.97
Canadian National Railway$12.07$18.45
The Keg Royalties Income Fund$29.04$10.75
BMO International Dividend ETF$39.24

Inter Pipeline$36.77
Plaza REIT$25.43
Canadian Apartment REIT$9.55
Suncor$22.79
Total$284.63$169.12

My TFSA account as you can see took a hit with Canadian Utilities, Inter Pipeline and other profile stocks leaving the portfolio. Like I mentioned above I plan on investing more in each of my current stocks in this account, I still have contribution room left for this year and plan on filling it throughout the year.

Locked In Retirement Account (LIRA)

20202021
Enbridge$85.86$101.87
Diversified Royalty Corp$4.46
Total$90.32$101.87

This is the first time this year that I’ve been able to include this account in my updates as I still only have Enbridge in the account. I saw a nice increase with this payment due to the dividend increase announced in December.

Dividend Re-Investment Plan (DRIP)

I still have the DRIP set up for my LIRA account and this month I was able to drip two new shares of Enbridge which will add $6.68 in forward dividend income.

Yearly Dividends

2021 Dividend Goal

As you can see I’m just under the $2,000 mark. I’ve hit 22.4% of my goal.

Stock/ETF Purchases

  • XAW ETF 19 shares
  • Fortis 8 shares
  • Alimentation Couche-Tard 6 shares
  • BCE 5 shares

Dividend Increases

Had one dividend raise this month and it came from General Dynamics which boosted it 8.2%

Hope everyone had a great month.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Congratulations Mat for your $576.34 in dividend income for March. Like you I added shares of XAW + ATD.B βœ“ That change in your RRSP was a good move since we know that it’s the only place where you can have US stocks! Since I’ve maxout already all my accounts, no choice to sell my Canadians stocks into my RRSP to purchase new shares of my existing positions in US & repurchase these Canadians stocks into my taxable account ! Good saving + investing Mat ! πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ“ˆπŸ’²πŸ’°
