December 2020 Dividend Income

Hello everyone and welcome to my final dividend post for 2020. I hope everyone had a great and safe holiday season. For me I went into the holidays awaiting a COVID test as I had been sick thankfully the test came back negative, and I’m now doing much better. Other than that the holidays were pretty quiet as we stayed home this year due to the lockdowns. On the investing front December was quiet, I made three purchases and I made a decision to journal all but one of my Canadian stocks that were in my RRSP account over to the US side of the same account in order to start collecting the dividends in US currency.

I received a total of $614.16 in dividend income this month from 13 stocks. Thanks to Enbridge I received dividends in all three accounts, here is the breakdown per account:

  • RRSP $379
  • TFSA $137.96
  • LIRA $97.20

I had seven US stocks pay me this month, so here is the currency in which I received the dividends in. To keep things simple I report the US currency as Canadian, that way I don’t have to convert it.

  • USD $139.10
  • CDN $475.06

Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)

20192020
Enbridge$114.39$132.84
Fortis$99.32$107.06
Lockheed Martin$19.20$36.40
Johnson & Johnson$15.20$24.24
Walgreens Boots Alliance$9.15$21.04
Home Depot$16.32$18.00
3M$14.40$14.70
Bank of America$12.96$12.96
Microsoft$10.71$11.76
Power Corp$94.77
Realty Income Corp$10.67
Total$417.09$379.00

I am reporting a down month this year for this account, the reason was out of my control as Power Corp has shifted their payment dates around this year and appear they will be doing the same in 2021. In 2020 I was able to add to some of my positions in the account which led to bigger payments. Also dividend increases and dripped shares had a positive effect for me with Enbridge and Fortis.

Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA)

20192020
Enbridge$49.41
Fortis$26.76
The Keg Royalties Income Fund$28.85$15.35
Canadian National Railway$8.06$14.95
Brookfield Renewable Partners Corp.$19.13
Inter Pipeline$35.06$12.36
BMO International Dividend ETF$38.79
Canadian Utilities$65.52
Chorus Aviation$18.48
European Residential REIT$3.98
Plaza Retail REIT$25.08
Canadian Apartment REIT$9.55
Suncor$20.58
Total$253.95$137.96

Big drop of income in this account, this is due to dividend cuts earlier in the year and by selling a few of these stocks. Also I was expecting to receive a payment from XRE the iShares S&P/TSX Capped REIT Index ETF but after checking their website they actually don’t pay a distribution in December. To make this up there will be two distributions in January, the first one is scheduled for Jan 6th.

Locked In Retirement Account (LIRA)

20192020
Enbridge$77.49$97.20
Diversified Royalty Corp$3.72
Total$81.21$97.20

There was a nice jump in income with this account as I sold Diversified Royalty Corp earlier in the year and used the cash to buy more Enbridge.

DRIP

# of SharesForward Dividend Income
Enbridge (LIRA)2$6.48
Enbridge (RRSP)3$9.72
Fortis2$4.04
Total7$20.24

I dripped seven shares in the monthly from two quality stocks.

Yearly Dividends Comparison

Finished the year on a good note I belief. With Power Corp not paying in the month I was curious as to where I would end up. Even though it less than last year I am happy to receive just over $600 in a month.

2020 Dividend Goal

Now that 2020 is over I can look back and say that it was a satisfactory year for me in terms of dividends received. I was to grow my income over 2019 and that is always I goal I have to beat the previous year.

Here is a chart showing the amount of dividends received per year since I started investing in individual stocks.

Stock & ETF Purchases

  • iShares Core MSCI All Country World ex Canada ETF (XAW) 13 shares
  • Power Corp 8 shares

Dividend Increases

Received one increase in December.

  • Enbridge 3%

Thanks for reading!

    1. Thanks Bert! Baseball should be interesting this year, it’s nice to see the Jays spend some money, I think we need another starting pitcher or two yet. Sorry to hear that about the Indians, maybe they will start spending again in 2022??
