Hello and welcome to my February dividend income post. I always enjoy writing these type of posts because I get to share with you what went on with my portfolio in the previous month. What can I say about February? Hmmm well portfolio value continued to rise until the last week when fears of the coronavirus fears took hold of the market. I imagine in the days ahead the market will be volatile which will not shy me away from buying. On a positive note my dividend income continued to grow, I earned $19.62 over February 2019’s total.
February is one of my quietest months, I had 12 stocks and 1 ETF pay me $475.32. The income breakdown per account is as follows:
- RRSP $307.95
- TFSA $163.61
- LIRA $3.76
I had three US stocks pay me in February, here is the currency that I received the dividends in. Just a reminder to keep things simple I report the US currency as Canadian that way I don’t have to convert it to Canadian.
- USD $110.69
- CDN $364.63
RRSP
2019 | 2020 | |
Royal Bank of Canada | $75.46 | $100.80 |
Bank of Montreal | $71.00 | $96.46 |
AbbVie | $40.66 | $79.06 |

BMO International Dividend ETF | $22.23
Inter Pipeline | $36.85 | |
Total | $256.80 | $307.95 |
So pretty quiet in my RRSP this month as I received payments from just 5 stocks. My income grew however due to my purchases in all of the stocks other than Realty Income Corp. Also all five stocks increased their dividends as well throughout 2019.
TFSA
2019 | 2020 | |
BMO International Dividend ETF | $38.79
Inter Pipeline | $34.84 | $35.34 |

Boston Pizza Royalties Fund | $12.31
Laurentian Bank | $61.75
Total | $196.68 | $163.61 |
This account was a little busier as I hold a few monthly payers here, my income was lower due to the fact I sold three stocks during last year. On a positive note all but one of the stocks I still own benefited from the DRIP (dividend re-investment plan) and their income has grown from last February.
LIRA
2019 | 2020 | |
Diversified Royalty Corp | $2.22 | $3.76 |
Total | $2.22 | $3.76 |
Thanks to a purchase I made last year I was able to add shares and grow my income.
DRIP
# Of Shares | Forward Income
Plaza Retail Reit | 5 | $1.40 |
Chorus Aviation | 2 | $0.96 |
Inter Pipeline | 1 | $1.71 |
European Residential Reit | 1 | $0.15 |
Diversified Royalty Corp | 1 | $0.23 |
Total | 10 | $4.45 |
As many of you know I recently moved my TFSA account to Wealthsimple Trade. Wealthsimle does not offer a drip program so I have to take dividends in cash. Last month it had been my plan to just buy another share when the dividends came in, however with the market volatility I am changing my plan. I believe this downturn has created some buying opportunities, so I’m going to be starting some new positions in stocks and I plan on building up these positions with the dividends I currently receive in my TFSA.
As for my RRSP and LIRA accounts the drip will continue as normal. Thought I would share this with you as you will see my drip numbers dropping.

- Chorus Aviation 13 shares
- Inter Pipeline 10 shares
- Transcontinental 10 shares

February is one of my low months for dividends as well.
Some great purchases and dividend increases as well. For the dividend increase section of the post, you are missing the percentage increase for Diversified Royalty Corp.

Excellent month Matthew. For one of your quiet months, you performed very, very well. That is a healthy list of dividend increases as well. I’m a little bummed about the MMM dividend increase; however, looking at how things have shaken out, it was probably prudent. Best of luck building on a successful month and crushing it in March!
